Jose Mourinho - A Speedy Descent of "the Special One"
The worth of his exciting managerial acumen is not in doubt. No one can question the quality of the quality of Jose Mourinho. The evidence of his successes is seen all over Europe, yet on Thursday 17th, December 2015, the self acclaimed Special One was shown the exit door by Chelsea. By so doing Chelsea FC, sacked one of the best (if not the best) managers of this generation.
But their action was not without a reason; the season has being the worst of Mourinho's glittering career.
But their action was not without a reason; the season has being the worst of Mourinho's glittering career.
I am a fan of Jose Mourinho; and also among the Manchester United fans who would like to see him manage the Old Trafford club soon. No one can doubt the pedigree of Jose Mourinho. Ewan Roberts wrote about him thus;
"Chelsea have sacked one of – if not the – best managers of his generation. He will not disappear quietly into the background. He will not need to rebuild his reputation. He leaves as a champion, his final trophy built on a frightening combination of attacking, relentlessly energetic football and an end-of-season pragmatism and resilience. He is still that same manager, he is still “the f***ing boss”, to quote Pep Guardiola"
Notable figures in the sports world gave it all to Chelsea because of the ingenuity of the man Jose. Among those are; Gary linker, Alan Brazil, many analysts and sports writers predicted that Chelsea will retain the premier league in 2015/16 season. Seven out of ten at "The Telegraph" tipped Chelsea for the title again this season, see predictions here. According to Guardian football writer's predictions; 7 out of the 11 writers predicted that Chelsea will win the league. But after 16 matches Chelsea is 16th on the log and sits a point above the dreaded relegation zone.
Mourinho's Trophy Cabinet
The situations at Chelsea before the sack does not represent the quality of a man of Jose's calibre; who has won trophies in all the leagues he has managed.
Was the decision right
Yes, I think so. Chelsea was right to have sacked the best manager in the premier league. The decision was right because the results were not right. It got to a point where change is not only eminent but very necessary if Chelsea must avoid relegation. Chelsea has lost nine of their sixteen games so far this season, drawn three and won only four, currently they are sixteenth on the log and nineteen points behind the leaders Leicester city. Last season, they played thirty eight games, won tewnty six , drew nine and lost only three.
What went wrong
What went wrong with Jose and his lads? Why would the champions fight for relegation? The reasons are simple;
- No man is invincible except God. This is a lesson he must learn.
- In Chelsea FC if you loose the players, you loose your job. I suspect the players for certain reasons no longer want to play for him. No wonder he claimed they betrayed him in his last game in charge.
Mourinho will be back
Jose is a champion, and champions don't quit. This may be an opportunity for him to better himself and I wish him all the best. Surely, he will bounce back soon, and I sincerely hope he will have a stint at Manchester United. Till then we all have some lessons to learn from Jose Mourinho's speedy descent from glory.
Lessons from Mourinho and Chelsea's speedy descent from glory.
- Treat people with respect no matter who they are - Chelsea’s opening fixture at home against Swansea City ended in a 2-2 draw, and Jose Mourinho blamed the team doctor Eva Carneiro for their misfortune. Carneiro and physiotherapist Jon Fearn rushed on to the pitch to treat the apparently injured Hazard. And Mou banned her from attending club matches or training sessions. She also alleged that Mou used some inappropriate word(s) on her. Could the woman's curse be the origin of his misfortune? Whatever be the case, you cannot punish a person for doing exactly what she was employed to do. For me he was not fair to Eva whom people say has the last laugh now.
- You are not immuned to failure - You cannot be successful to the point of eliminating the total possibility of failure. When you're succeeding handle those who struggle for success with respect.
- Never let your friends down - John Terry the team captain is one of the bedrocks of Mourinho's success at Chelsea. He was not shown enough respect when he was substituted at half time in Chelsea's 3-0 loss to Manchester city earlier in the season. That and any other form of disrespect for him was capable of causing discord in the changing room.
- Have regard for authority - "The humble man looks for authority and wants to get under it, but the proud man has trouble with authority; insubordination is a mark of pride." His little respect for the FA and referees may have contributed to his ruin at Chelsea.
- No condition is permanent - Many of those who predicted that Chelsea will win the premiere league also claimed that Leicester city would be relegated. But Leicester has proved the book makers wrong. They are at the top currently. You can prove your doubters wrong if you believe in yourself.
- Pride goes before a fall - One thing is sure about Jose, he is arrogant. He first called himself the Special One and now The Only One, while he branded Arsene Wenger Specialist in failure. Who knows, Jose may also have named himself a god if his second stint at Chelsea was glorious.
