A Christless Christmas
Is Your Christmas Without Jesus
Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God and the Saviour of the world. Christmas by right should be for the followers of Christ. However, Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world whether Christians or not. It has become a period widely driven by commercialism, vanity and the glorification of the flesh. The world has taken over Christmas
and all we see are the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
and all we see are the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
Christians should be concerned that the focus of Christmas has shifted from the glorification of Christ to that of self. Lusting after profit and material things has stolen the real essence of Christmas. Many have forgotten the Reason for the Season. Do you celebrate Christmas without Christ? Do you really know Jesus?
When Jesus came into the world over two thousand years ago, He did not come for Himself but for the whole world, because He was ordained to save the world.
He was born as a little child in a manger, a dirty and a messy place for sure, but only because He wanted to show to us that He has come to our dirty lives to help us clean it up.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
His coming was glorious as it was announced by multitude of angels to the shepherds, but much more glorious was his departure. He left the world victorious, having defeated the devil, and delivered man from the age long bondage to him and his evil schemes.
What we are doing at this season is just to mark that lowly but glorious coming, but then it is only meaningful to those who actually know Christ, those who have made Him their Lord and Saviour, unto such the real joy of Christmas would be made manifest, as they rejoice in the realization that the person they are celebrating has taken away their sins and has given them eternal life.
In times like this, people go all out to buy all kinds of things, the price of goods sour, cost of transportation increases, life somehow becomes unavoidably difficult, all in the name of celebrating Christmas. The question remains; was Jesus really in the intentions and plans of all those who claim to celebrate Christmas? Is this what Christ actually came for? Wining and dining, buying and selling? Can we continue to do all of these and claim to be celebrating Christmas?
So take time out of this busy season and celebrate the birth of our Savior, set aside extra time to spend with Him. Celebrate with people who are less privileged, spread the Love of Christ at Christmas. Make sure you affect people's life in a very positive and modest way. Merry Christmas to you.
